MDP provided full Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing design services for the Whetstone Workforce Housing development, a large-scale community located on a 13-acre site in the northern Gunnison Valley, Colorado. Designed to address local workforce housing needs, the project included 256 residential units distributed across a mix of twostory duplexes, triplexes, townhomes, and two and three-story apartment buildings, organized into eight cohesive zones.
MDP’s design incorporated a Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) system at each residential unit to meet HVAC needs. This energy-efficient system utilized the natural heat transfer capacity of the ground, significantly reducing the community’s reliance on fossil fuels and resistive electric heating. In addition to the residential design, the development featured numerous outdoor and community-oriented amenities, including a Central Greenway/Park, Boundary Trail, Boundary Link, and multiple public transit access points to ensure mobility and connectivity for all residents.
MDP’s work emphasized sustainable, energy-efficient infrastructure and contributed to the long-term affordability and resilience of the Whetstone community.
